It was a blinding blizzard, quite frightening really when you cannot see anything but snow, while awful turbulence added to the unfolding nightmare. My hands were clammy and beads of sweat drenched my forehead as we were about to land at one of the most stressful airports in the world, from a pilot’s point of view anyway. What was the most amazing thing of all? Incredibly, the man who trained the pilots, who put them through their paces, through every horrendous scenario possible and then trained them how to respond and react had NEVER flown a real plane in his life and didn‘t even have a pilot’s licence! Now that is amazing. Whether this is still the same now I don’t know.
